March with Science for the People Atlanta!
March 23 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm EDT
**NEW** Science for the People t-shirts! Checkout the *Discussion* section for more info.
The March for Science is happening on Saturday March 23, and Science for the People Atlanta will be sending a contingent to ensure that our support for science is rooted in social justice and radical democracy. As scientists, educators, and science advocates, we know that it is not enough for the people to defend science–science must defend the people, from its own abuse in the service of war, surveillance, and inequality.
Science for the People is a national grass-roots organization dedicated to ensuring that the fruits of scientific discovery flow to all people and help us create a more just world. At the same time, we must fight the abuse and misuse of science, such as the development of ever more powerful ways to kill, new extractive technologies for fossil fuels, artificial intelligence for mass surveillance, and bogus genetic determinism and “race science.” We will be marching with banners, signs, and pamphlets to spread our message of a world in which sound science works in tandem with democracy to promote human flourishing.

On Saturday we’ll meet ahead of the main march, on the South side of the lake in Old Fourth Ward Park near Rankin St and the Camden apartments. We’ll join the main march for its trip along the belt-line to Piedmont Park where some festivities are planned for the Atlanta Science Festival, pamphleteering and recruiting the whole way.
